A DeClunk Q & A with Ghostkeeper.

Hello Ghostkeeper…….welcome to the DeClunk universe.

Please introduce Ghostkeeper.

Ghostkeeper is the experimental Metis pop group fronted by the songwriting duo, Shane Ghostkeeper and Sarah Houle.

Please give us a description of your immediate surroundings so that we can all get snug.

We are currently hanging out in our back yard with our two sons, ages 4 and 12, they are debating the Flash and brain sizes.

Please tell us where you live and something about it.

We live in Mohkinstsis, a traditional and sacred Blackfoot meeting place at the confluence of the bow and the elbow river.

Please tell us something about yourselves.

We are Cree Métis artists that hail from northern Alberta of the great northern muskeg.

Cîpayak Joy is the title of the new album. Please tell us what this title means.

Cîpayak is a Cree term that translates to ‘the ghosts are dancing’ referring to the Northern Lights and Joy represents our collaboration with producer Jay Crocker and his music project, Joyful Talk.

Is there a thread that runs through the songs on the new album?

The thread that runs through the whole album is the parameter we used of ‘on the spot’ song writing and composition- everything was immediate with no pre written songs.

How did the band go about writing material for Cîpayak Joy?

A series of impromptu sound design style in our home studio with sound engineer, Brad Hawkins at the helm. At which point the tracks were delivered to Jay Crocker of Joyful Talk to have his complete unbridled creative way with them.

What formats will the album be released on?

Digital and vinyl

Will there be a tour? Including the UK?

Hopefully…working on it

DeClunk recommends for you the following albums. Tongues by Tanya Tagaq, Braindrops by Tropical Fuck Storm and PF1 by Pill Fangs. Your turn.

Joyful Talk entire catalogue, Plant City by Ryan Bourne, nêhiyawak (self-titled) and Jon Mckiel Hex

My friend and I go fishing overnight a couple of times a year. It involves copious amounts of beer. A two-man disco breaks out around 11pm. This involves two blokes, in wellies, throwing shapes in the dark. What would be on your playlist for a drunken bankside disco?

Confetti by Charlotte Cardin, J Dilla Donuts, Fiery Furnaces Cairo

Many thanks for taking the time with DeClunk. We look forward to catching up with you some time soon.

Cîpayak Joy is released on August 28th.
