Marisa and the Moths album What Doesn’t Kill You.

This is one we have been looking forward to. It doesn’t disappoint. The album kicks off with a ballad ‘Cursed’. The highlight of this track is the voice of Marisa, strong and assured, against the backdrop of piano. It’s a strong start from which the album can build. We jump in and jump around with the guitar drenched ‘Get it off my chest’ followed by ‘Borderline’. Then drops the hefty ‘Wither away’. Now this is one that’s going send that mosh pit into a frenzy. Don’t think there’s any rest, ‘Gaslight’ is full of punchy guitar. Now you can breathe with the trance like, ghostly ‘State of mind’ but it’s a really short respite before the pace is picked up again with ‘Who are you waiting for?’ and ‘Pedestal’. But hold on, relax, an acoustic number. Straight-Laced is gentle guitar underneath that voice. Back in with ‘Fake it till you make it‘ and a crowd pleasing singalong that is ‘Sad’. A couple of more tracks and it’s a 30 second interlude ‘Sense of self’. I really like the sound of the interlude tracks, it would be cool if these were developed further. Then the last two end the album in strength, ‘Devil’ and ‘Lungs’, two different beasts. ‘Devil’ finds an almost death metal guttural quality.’Lungs’ finishes of the album in style. It’s an album that shows off Marisa and the Moths confidence. It’s classy, shows several sides of the band and who can resist Marisas voice. Get yourself a copy. Follow the link.
