Annabelle Chairlegs….A charming Declunk Q & A on the eve of the release of Waking Up.

Hi Annabelle Chairlegs, welcome to the DeClunk universe.

Please could you give a description of your surroundings so we can all get nice and cosy.

Hiii I am at home. At my desk! I am surrounded by every single thing- literally. tapes and notebooks and recording equipment, red crazy straw that reads ‘Chairlegs’- Inspo on the walls, books, crafts, pens and paints-lots of instruments and good lighting too!  Maximalist!

We would like to say that Annabelle Chairlegs is our current favourite name. Did you have any other names in the hat? If so, what were they? Somebody might be reading this in need!

There was an idea or two but none that made it on to paper. None that became a romantic doodle- except Annabelle Chairlegs!

Please introduce members of the band.

On Waking Up you will hear OG/iconic duo- Derek Strahan on Bass and Nick Cornetti on Drums

Our live show line up has shifted a bit and thrives in it’s own way -Nick Cornetti On Drums, Simone Maresh on Bass and Nolan Potter on guitar/keys!

Did you always have encouragement to pursue a career in music? Are you from a musical family?

I’d say my immediate family is quite musical. They don’t play/ study music but they are all real deal lovers of music. We all sing and dance and share songs. My parents have always been pretty hands off but are also encouraging. I have always felt supported but also pushed to work hard and smart and for all that I have. I am grateful for that.

We love the video to ‘Heavy Sleeper’. It has that bonkers look about it. Was it fun and to make?

Heavy Sleeper was soooo  fun to make! Colin Shields is a childhood friend that I have known for a long time. His ability to make magic out of nothing is beyond anything I have ever witnessed. We have been wanting to collaborate for a long time now and when I was going to be spending time in New Jersey this past summer we made it happen. It was really a gift to see someone in their element like that. To see someone break down a scene or moment and find the most insane and creative way to build it (in a totally nuts creative way) and shoot it-light it- fix my make-Up- do wardrobe – play the song at the moment needed – with no other help. What a gift. so inspiring.  After we were half way through shooting the Heavy Sleeper music video , I was like ‘ ..sooooo  I’ve got this idea for the album cover’. And he was like -say less!  next thing you know we had clear boards that were used in classrooms to block germs from pandemic era and his grandmothers cushions to build clouds. I could go on and on. It is everything working with Colin. Bonkers!!!

The new album, ‘Waking Up’, is released at the end of January. Please tell us all about it!

I recorded an album a few years back and it wasn’t making sense to me, or felt disjointed. I was re-working some older songs and some newer ones and I decided to rip that album in half and rebuild both sides. The original album I had done was going to be called Heavy Sleeper and very much existed in a dream world – which this does as well but with some life zapped into it and after some new songs and old , re-imagined ones, it became Waking Up!

How do you go about writing your songs? Is there a particular process or is it random?

It varies so much but I am always doodling things and writing and drawing, collecting items. I go to record at home and find some guitar or keys feelings and look back at stuff or think about a place/ mood of it. Some melodies from writings -if I haven’t already just written as a melody and made a memo or recorded on my cassette.it’s all over the place with a little process goin on.

Is there a tour and are you visiting the UK?

We are coming to the UK in September!! We will absolutely be at Manchester Psych Fest in September and the rest is to be determined and announced !! If you want to see us hit up our agents – GAB@annibale.eu LARA@annibale.eu ❤ SOOO thrilled about it. Dream come true.

Do you have any other talent beyond music? Maybe ventriloquism? Or origami? Spinning plates?

I worked at a Scottish Butcher in Kearny, NJ -on and off for 8 years, I can link 30 lbs of breakfast sausage in 2.30 mins.
