The album kicks off with opener ‘Grief’. It’s not long, reading the track titles and lyrics that this album is about the relationship of love and death.
Bonnie Trash is the project of twin sisters Emmalia & Sarafina Bortolon-Vettor. Sarafina, the band’s singer and lyricist, has described the album as being about “losing someone you love. It’s about the horrors of grief, haunting you every day.” Inspired, largely, by the passing of Nonna Maria – who provided interstitial narration across the band’s early work – it’s these intimate details which render the songs on ‘Mourning You’ so devastating.
The album is driven on by hefty guitar rifts, ‘Hellmouth’ and ‘Haunt Me’ and ‘In The End, I’ll Wait For You’ pushing on through the middle of the album. The journey ends with the haunting drone filled track ‘It Eats Shadows’. It gets the thumbs at the DeClunk HQ. If you haven’t got into Bonnie Trash then now might just be the time, grab yourself a copy!
