Snapped Ankles left the forest and came to Carlisle for their first visit here. Had you been around in the early 70s you may have been reminded of Jon Pertwee’s Doctor Who and some sort of swamp monster. Maybe the forest in which Snapped Ankles dwell contains a swamp or two. Anyway, if you like a boogie for a while Snapped Ankles is the band for you. Not a bad turnout for Carlisle, perhaps over half of the Brickyard. Everything Snapped Ankles was in place, the head gear, the rhythm stick, the old footwear. There is always loads of energy at a SA gig, this was no different. Local stuff got a mention, the historic town centre, the skeleton of House of Fraser, Marks and Sparks and, naturally, the sycamore gap. The latter was paid homage with a sycamore shaker, a shaker taped to a piece of branch. We were encouraged to shut our eyes and head off to Fuerteventura before returning back to the forest. Next time you see Snapped Ankles you should make your own headwear and get yourself a rhythm stick. Appropriate headwear can be made from a mop head and rhythm sticks can be found in your local forest. Get on it and make it snappy.
