Lovely Eggs- The Grove
It was our first visit to ‘The Grove’- I’ve got to say that I was impressed- the bar staff were friendly, there was a vast array of beers on tap- with a good amount of seating inside and out, the place was bustling.
It’s always a good night out with the Lovely Eggs, from the minute the gig starts Holly wants the crowd dancing not just watching. The room the gig itself was in was packed. The first numbers were songs from the new album, which were well received by the crowd, there has been much said about the production on ‘ Eggsistentialism’ by Grammy award winning Dave Fridmann- I’ve got to say I agree it is one of their best yet.. Holly was her usual bundle of energy guitar, in the air, headbanging, then it was back to the old favourites- ‘Magic Onion’ and Wiggy Giggy’ got the crowd bouncing, travellers tales from the night before in Edinburgh moved into the anthemic ‘Fuck it’ the crowd singing along. I think we all would have liked to see the German family whose room David failed to break into in the room as we sympathised with the demise of David’s fridge!
There were poignant songs outlining the lack of empathy an audience can have to the words of a song and the life of a band member, moving onto Eggs classics like ‘don’t look at me ( I don’t like it)’…..got the crowd dancing,
Great to see the array of merch available, Holly and David were off stage and behind the desk in minutes- the artwork by Casey Raymond was definitely ‘mindboggling’, needless to say I came home with another t-shirt and a bobbled rather than a bobbleless hat.
