Hello SoapGirls …… welcome to the DeClunk Universe
Please describe your surroundings so that we can all get a little snug.
Right now we are sitting in our tour van ,next to a forest ,its raining and about a metre away from us is the hugest spiderweb we have ever seen
At what age did you write your first song and what was it about?
we were 9 and 10 it was about being bullied and standing up for ourselves
Why the name SoapGirls? Were there other names in the hat? If so, what were they?
From when we were kids , we would street perform with baskets of soap to raise funds for public hospitals and other causes , the public nicknamed us The SoapGirls and the name has stuck ever since, it is part of who we are , no other names had the same meaning.
You’re busy with a big tour right now. How’s it going?
Its a massive tour but at the moment everything has grinded to a halt until we get our USA visas ,we started in England it was a blast ,the USA is next and we tour Europe later this year, we feel like we’re stuck in limbo until we get the visas but even so we are continuously creating.
There have been some notorious riders demanded by rock n rollers. For example, Marylin Manson requested gummy bears and a bald headed, toothless hooker. Van Halen demanded M & Ms with all the brown ones taken out. What’s on yours?
A bottle of Jack Daniels always and for the rest well you’d have to be backstage to see that 😉
Is there any sister rivalry? You know, the best lyricist, the best spag bol, that sort of thing.
With each other never , we encourage and push each other , and embrace our differences and similarities , instead of fighting them .
Is there anything else planned for 2024? A nice sunny holiday somewhere?
yes, new music , new music videos and as for holidays , hell no we’re here to work!
How do you go about writing a song? Keith Richards reckons he went to sleep one night and can’t remember getting the riff down on tape to Satisfaction. It was just there when he awoke! You folks ever had such luck?!
For us songwriting is very organic , most of the time it’s music first , we’ve had a song where Mie heard the melody in a vacuum cleaner , which was different but inspiration can pop up in the strangest of places , we always write together though , and melody is everything!
I heard a discussion on how important a triangle is in music, for example it’s the last thing you hear on Ok Computer by Radiohead. Any chance I could tap one in one of your songs and get in on the video?
haha if we ever feel the need for the triangle in a song , we will give you a call for sure
If we were to come to your neck of the woods for a weekend, where would you take us for good times? You are the Entertainments Committee!
we’d take you to our home , show you our crazy music room , and introduce you to the wild troop of baboons that drop in to our garden .
As a job I spent 3 months cleaning toilets at a service station on the M3, not very pleasant. What is the worst job that you folks have had to do?
Damn that must’ve been heavy, we worked as waitresses and it was hell, it taught us a lot , especially about determination, we would walk miles over a mountain to get to work , work crazy hour shifts , to make sure we could save up to record and tour, the place we worked at was a madhouse , it inspired many songs .
My friend and I go fishing overnight a couple of times a year. It involves copious amounts of beer. A two-man disco breaks out around 11pm. This involves two blokes, in wellies, throwing shapes in the dark. What would be on your playlist for a drunken bankside disco?
definitely Boney M’s Daddy cool , Blondie Heart of Glass , The Butthole surfers shame of life and Lamb Of Gods Redneck
Any bands/artists that you recommend we give a listen to?
Dreadful Creatures and Mutant Menace Music and the Red Lions
Thank you for taking the time with DeClunk. We hope to catch your show some time.
Thank you for having us and we hope so too!
