Hello Trash Fiasco….. welcome to the DeClunk universe.
Please describe your surroundings so that we can all settle in together.
We are currently in the back of a butcher’s shop, waiting for a custom order of veal to be delivered. It’s pretty cold back here, and we all forgot jackets, so apologies if we shiver.
Please introduce yourselves and what each person brings to Trash Fiasco.
Lucas Fuechsl (drums) brings the fire and the fury. The heaviest side of the band, his drums drive the punk sound the characterizes us. Tyler Sanders (bass) knows exactly how to locate the grove for any style of song we work on. Not afraid to fuzz it up, Tyler often adds the bounce and feel our songs need. Frank Bruno (guitar/vox) brings the weirdness to the table. His best talent being not caring, he performs with no inhibitions and submits himself to the needs of the sound.
Trash Fiasco is a great name that trips off the tongue rather nicely. How did the name come about? Were there other names in the hat and what were they?
The name Trash Fiasco was a phrase used to describe a long shift at a fast-food restaurant when Frank’s brother came home from work. Frank kept it in mind and brought it to the band later when the time came.
There were other names, but I can’t seem to find them.
Where do you find inspiration for the music and lyrics?
For the music, we tend to build off of tiny snippets and meld them into whole songs. Whereas some bands ship off all the music writing to one person, any one of us come to practice with one riff or fill and we use that as the genesis. And that initial idea can be any genre, but it eventually works it way into a Trash Fiasco sound.
For the lyrics, we write character based narrative pieces typically. It starts by taking one idea or feelings, blowing it up to it’s extreme, and then assigning it a character.
We enjoyed ‘Turn to prey’ when it landed at DeClunk HQ. The album is due in a few weeks. Please tell us all about it.
Thank you! “Exist as Instructed” is an 8-track album providing fans with the same energy and chaos they’ve grown accustom to, but with a renewed spirit and attack. Featuring a wider range of what Trash Fiasco is capable of, listeners will find their heads spinning from track to
track. The hope is people will feel the common thread throughout making it sound like us, but recognize the intense differences along the way.
Will there be a tour? Are you coming to the UK?
We’ll be doing a short Midwest tour, including Nashville. Unfortunately not headed to UK this time around, but would love to make that happen in the future!
On overnight fishing trips, we drink copious amounts of beer and end up having a bankside disco around 11 o’clock. Luckily nobody ever witnesses this Stephen King type horror show. What would be on your bankside drunken disco playlist?
That sounds like an amazing time. Tell us the fishing hole and we’ll be there!
The Hustle – Van McCoy
Bizarre Love Triangle – New Order
Rhythm-a-Ning – Thelonoius Monk
Life During War Time – Talking Heads
Fishin’ in the Dark – Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald – Gordon Lightfoot
Actually, I think the drunken bankside disco would be a great video for one of your songs. Interested? It’s a great look, 2 old blokes in wellies with not a rhythmic bone between them.
We’re actually working on a music video right now for a pseudo – hardcore song that’s on the new album. I think this would be perfect!
Have you folks a talent that is not musical? You know, plate spinning, snake charming, tightrope walking, that sort of thing…
Hmmm… Lucas is a really good artist. Drawings and illustrations. Frank is pretty good on a pogo stick.
If we were to come to your neck of the woods for a weekend, where would you take us? You are the Entertainment Committee.
Richard’s Bar. That’s it. No other agenda items needed. If you know, you know.
Thanks for taking time with DeClunk. We look forward to the album and catching you folks do your stuff some time.
Thanks so much for having us! When we make our way to your side of the globe, we definitely need to meet up!
