Ever spent hundreds of pounds to see an act? You know, a few hundred to see Taylor Swift, or whatever the going rate is for Oasis. Don’t believe the hype! For a sum of fifteen quid you could have been entertained by one of the great bands, Tropical Fuck Storm. Of course, if you regularly visit DeClunk you would know that they have an album called Braindrops, a classic album that may have passed you by. So what were they like in the flesh? Awesome. We were treated to songs from across TFS catalogue. including a favourite ‘Paradise’, wonky sounding guitar and all. We also had ‘Braindrops’, ‘You Let My Tyres Down’ and ‘Who’s My Eugene’. It was all delivered with that raucous power and intensity that one might expect. In between the band were amusingly chatty, Gareth comparing our Newcastle with the Aussie Newcastle. Apparently it has golden sands, blue skies, gorgeous 6 ft blond women and hulks of men. I think he suggested we should all go! The band produced all the mangled, disrupted, deconstructed guitar sounds that are trademark TFS. And it all works.

The band on before set the scene for the night. This was the first time that we had heard Maria Iskariot. This young band is from Belgium. It didn’t matter that I didn’t understand the language, Flemish I think. They put on a performance of power and energy. The singer and guitarist owned the stage and beyond, roaring the words so that you knew she really meant it, even if you didn’t have a clue what the words were. A band I suggest everyone reading this gives some discovery time to. As I have already written, all this for fifteen quid. Forget splashing out on all that hyped shite, these bands are the real deal!
