Die Anstalt, Germany’s most confrontational synth punk export, just tore through the UK, flooring audiences on their tour with A Place To Bury Strangers. With the UK run wrapped up, today they have shared “Isolation”, a newly recorded track to be featured on City Slang’s forthcoming reissue of the band’s self-released debut album, out on September 25th.
While an older version of the track is already out there, this new, updated recording prickles and itches as howling spaghetti-western guitars and shuddering beats ride grinding synth-punk rhythms, with Carmen Redeker’s venomous vocal delivery turning a restless, claustrophobic sound into a pointed reflection on the pressures of modern life.
“Isolation isn’t about the physical concept of being cut off, but rather the value that society ascribes to you” she comments. “It’s about a system that constantly demands proof from you: You’re only worth something if you achieve something. Our parents all grew up with this stigma and pass it on to us. So the pigeon flies, the rat runs, and in the end, no one is allowed to stand still. Right now, it feels as though this very system is gradually collapsing.”
